LINDENWOOD 4, OKLAHOMA 3 (OT)

The 6th-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club hung with No. 2 Lindenwood for 64 minutes but lost in the final seconds of overtime by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon in Wentzville, Missouri.

The Sooners got on the board first when defenseman Greg Smith (Irvine, CA) lofted a gorgeous pass through the neutral zone to forward Daryl Dee (Garland, TX) who skated in all alone on the Lindenwood goalie, deked and went top shelf off the backhand at the 5:00 mark of the first to put OU up 1-0, a score that would hold up until the first intermission.

The second period turned into a see-saw affair as Lindenwood scored a power play goal 40 seconds in to tie the game and then took a 2-1 lead at 4:29 of the period on a nifty give-and-go play that started behind the Sooners' net and ended with a tuck goal for the Lions.  Lindenwood seemingly had all the momentum going their way but forward Chris Nicolaou (Dallas, TX) answered just 22 seconds later when he jammed home a Sean McCauley (Naperville, IL) pass out of the corner into the Lions' net.  Lindenwood scored another power play goal to take a 3-2 lead but forward Adrian Borchgrevink (Kenai, AK) tied the game at 3-3 when he skated in on net from the right circle and sniped the top right corner of the LU goal at 15:40 of the second period.

The game would remain tied throughout the remainder of regulation and the teams proceeded to play a five-minute 4-on-4 overtime period.  In OT, the Sooners had to kill off a questionable penalty call and looked like they were heading to a shootout with Lindenwood, but it was not to be as the Lions scored with just 41 seconds left in overtime to win the game 4-3 over the Sooners.

Sooners goaltender Chad Helgason (Woodbury, MNstopped 31 of 35 shots while Lindenwood's Chris Abbott stopped 28 of 31 OU shots he faced.  Oklahoma was 1 for 9 on the power play while Lindenwood was 2 for 10 with the man advantage

The game was Oklahoma's first out of 17 so far this season to go past regulation and into extra time. The loss drops Oklahoma's record to 14-3-1 while Lindenwood improves to 19-2-1.  Oklahoma returns home for five games in eight days, starting next Friday in Oklahoma City against No. 11 Rhode Island.
