Three Sooners selected for 2009 World University Games tryout camp |
The University of Oklahoma® Hockey club announces that senior defenseman Mark Tylka (Wisconsin Dells, WI), senior forward Doug Gebbie (Frisco, TX) and sophomore forward Daryl Dee (Garland, TX) have been selected by the ACHA to participate in the 2009 Winter World University Games tryout camp.
Players from the ACHA will represent the USA at the Winter World University Games which will be held February 18-28, 2009 in Harbin, China. Tylka, Gebbie and Dee are among eighty players from all three divisions of the ACHA who have been selected to participate in the 2009 WUG tryout camp, which will be held at the Compuware Arena in Plymouth, Michigan from August 15-17, 2008. Eight goaltenders, twenty-four defensemen and forty-two forwards will compete at the tryout camp for one of the limited spots on the WUG roster.
Players selected for the 2009 WUG roster will arrive on February 13, 2009 for a mini-camp and an exhibition game before leaving for China on Monday, February 16th. The WUG team will return to the United States on March 1, 2009. If Tylka, Gebbie and/or Dee are selected for the 2009 WUG team, they will miss the Sooners' series of against Central Oklahoma, Liberty and Arizona State but return in plenty of time to accompany the Sooners to the 2009 National Championship Tournament.
The 2008-2009 OU Hockey season gets underway on the road on September 19th as the Sooners travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to face the No. 4-ranked Liberty Flames. The Sooners will play their first home game on October 3rd as Oklahoma hosts North Dakota State. The entire schedule can be viewed at http://www.ouhockey.com/schedule.html.
